This course is for editors and writers with little or no formal design training who hire—or also function as—graphic designers. You'll learn the fundamentals of effective design, including layout, typography, photography, and color. What's more, you'll have the tools to make confident, smart decisions on the design questions that come up every day. Topics include:

  • Three essential steps of the design process
  • Four make-or-break elements of page layout
  • Five surefire ways to ruin publication design
  • Eight musts for readable design
  • The keys to an effective editor/designer relationship

NOTE: Students are encouraged to bring one of their projects to class for an evaluation and improvement suggestions by the (designer/editor/writer) instructor.
